Ciro & Sal's
Meet Our Staff

You'll recognize a lot of familiar faces along with some newcomers who have joined our restaurant family. From left to right in the top row: Lauren, Cheryl, Sara, Tom, Susie, Larry, Carol, Serge. In the second row: James, Jennifer (Lopez), Joyelle, Jennifer (Shuemaker). In the third row, Lylium, Julian, Laurel, Zach, Scott and Jonathan. And right in front, Bill.

Now, in 2005, with five summers under his belt, Larry Luster is the sole proprietor working closely with his brother, Charles, and Chef Lyliam Araujo to keep tight tabs on every aspect of the kitchen. From pasta chef to waiter Larry can step in and do any job in the restaurant......and often does! Larry is the proud father of six wonderful children, several of whom work at the restaurant. An avid fitness buff, Larry is also a black belt in Karate and a basketball coach for the local high school team.

Bill Lampros has returned to Provincetown from Coudersport in north central Pennsylvania where he was sole owner of Cafe Ladona for 10 years. Formerly the manager of Ciro & Sal's and the Flagship during the 1980's, his love affair with Provincetown runs deep. Leaving the Allegheny Mountains, Bill followed Rt. 6 east for 10 hours and is now happily ensconced on the Outer Cape. He has brought with him his devotion, organizational skills and stamina to insure that all systems will run smoothly.

Lauren Richmond (left), Assistant Manager, has been at Ciro's since the early 1970's. After four years at St. Lawrence University, Lauren thought she would spend a winter in Provincetown and has been here happily ever since! The off season finds her dabbling in pottery, silversmithing and, most recently, web design, along with a four year stint on the Provincetown Historical Commission and fourteen years as a member of the Companion Animal Program, visiting at nursing homes on the Cape with her dogs, Buddy and Polly. Carol D'Amico (right), former Miss North End, grew up in Boston and holds a degree in Chemistry. Besides her restaurant duties, she teaches writing and history at Provincetown High School. She was instrumental in the inception of and fundraising for WOMR, Provincetown's own radio station. In addition to her daughter, Simone, a UCLA and Georgetown graduate, Carol has taken care of foster children and other children in crisis on the Cape. She hopes to raise funding for The Foundation for Youth, an organization she has started that will offer respite and shelter to youngsters in need.

And now Charles Luster, Larry's younger brother, is cooking at night. Instead of waiting on table, as he has done for decades, he has put on a white apron and become a premier pasta chef. Every batch is cooked to order seconds before it is brought to the table. Timing and consistency are an essential part of the job and Charles is as steady as they come. If you want your pasta flavorful and al dente, Charles is the man! Having mastered the art of pasta Charles is expanding his role in the kitchen to include 'middleman', the expediter in charge of the ovens and the broiler and the coordination of all the other hot stations. When needed he can also wear the hat of sauté chef. We're lucky to have such a devoted, talented and dependable guy on our line.

Lyliam Araujo is our head chef for the 2005 season. Born in Rio di Janiero, Brazil, her Latin heritage, flair for well seasoned dishes and years of experience (Grand Central, Napi's, Pepe's and Cerutti's) stand her in good stead as she oversees the kitchen and creates weekly specials that combine fresh local ingredients with innovative new twists. Lyliam's forté is the sauté station.......there is no one more calm, more focused or more consistent no matter how busy the night. Originally planning on a career as a marine biologist in Wood's Hole, Lyliam detoured to Provincetown and began cooking in restaurants, a talent that came naturally and was nurtured earlier in life by her mother's culinary expertise. Although soft-spoken and diminutive there is no doubt that Lyliam is both capable and in charge. In her spare time Lyliam enjoys water sports, photography and spending time with her dog, Ian, a Jack Russel/Welsh Corgi mix.

Albie Zondiors, Lyliam's right hand man, as it were, is no stranger to Ciro's or Provincetown, having worked in our kitchen on and off for a number of years and having spent time on the Outer Cape since he was an infant. Classically trained in French, German and Italian cuisine, Albie hails from Springfield, MA. but spent 10 years in the Caribbean early on honing his craft at restaurants such as the Provence Bistro and Alexander's Cafe in St. Thomas. A colorful character, to be sure, we are all very fond of Albie and the spice he adds to our kitchen (literally and figuratively!). No one makes a better Vitello alla Marsala......and if the Lobster Fra Diavalo is on the menu, you can be sure Albie will make it HOT!

Tom Sayers is originally from Jersey City, N.J., but has made Provincetown his home for the past twelve or so years. Before that he spent 20 years in Boston as a pharmacist, waiter and property manager. Tom came to us in 2000 after working at the Dancing Lobster and brings with him a fine sense of humor and a great work ethic. As if waiting on table isn't a full time job, Tom spends his days doing carpentry and catering to his canine companion, Boomer!

Joyelle, Larry's oldest daughter, wears many hats. You can find her doing clean-up, prepping the day's fare with the morning crew in the kitchen or waiting table at night. Through Joyelle's efforts we now have rotating local art exhibits and openings in the cocktail lounge on a two week schedule during the summer months. To top it off Joyelle is a full time mom to her young son, Tariq.

Susie Jahnig is an institution at Ciro's having been a server for many, many moons as well as our pastry chef over the years. A gifted songstress, Susie is always called upon for a chorus of 'Happy Birthday'......and if it's a joke you want to hear she has a great knack for storytelling and humor. Dinner around the family table wouldn't be the same without Susie's comments and perspective on life!

Sara Alter came to Cape Cod in the 1960's after graduating from the University of Connecticutt where she studied English. In addition to raising a now 27 year old son, Sara collects and sells antiques. She is no newcomer to restaurants having worked at the Little Fluke, The Dancing Lobster and Sal's Place over the years.

Cassie Hultin, who grew up in Truro, is the daughter of longtime former Ciro's employee, Linnet Hultin. It's a treat having a second generation member of our staff especially when most of us remember her birth and formative years! Cassie is both a waitress and a bartender at Ciro's and is the proud mom of son, Adin, born in June 2003!

Lessie Sargent, who grew up in on the Cape, is a Luster relation who returns for her fourth summer as a member of our wait staff. Lessie is quiet and competent, seldom getting ruffled and never raising her voice. How does she maintain such a calm demeaner???? Could it have anything to do with the year she spent studying in Spain?

Zach Luster, Larry's second oldest son, has been helping his Dad for years and has come up through the ranks as a busboy, but returns officially as a waiter for his fifth summer season. Zach gets taller everytime he turns around. Better watch those low ceilings, Zach...............you're growing fast! Among his many credits Zach was PHS Varsity All Team Leading Scorer and a 4 year All Star. He will be joining his brother, Silas, at Williston Academcy for a post-graduate year in the fall of 2005.

Steven Rome, a Luster cousin, returns for another summer in various capacities including waiter and service bartender. During the day Steven keeps busy as a gallery attendant at the Packard Gallery just up the street where his mother (Leslie Packard), aunt (Cynthia Packard) and grandmother (Anne Packard) display their artwork. Steven spent this past winter in China, living with relatives, studying and working.

Phyllis Lutsky, originally from NYC, has been coming to the Cape since 1997. She joined our waitstaff in 2004 bringing with her a professional work ethic and a good sense of humor, honed, no doubt while driving a cab for a living in NYC. During the day Phyllis is a landscaper, doing her best to add to the beauty of the Cape. She finds Provincetown the perfect dog friendly place for her Lab mix, Remy.

Donovan Davis, from Hanover, Jamaica, has been returning to P'town seaonally since 2001 to help us out as a waiter and bartender. Donovan learned his craft well as a head wine steward for the Norwegian Cruise Line for 8 years. At home in Jamaica he has a wife and four children and, in his off time, likes watching movies, especially drama and science fiction. Stop in at our bar, enjoy a superbly made martini and some good Jamaican cheer.

Angela Pagano (Angie), adding to the international flavor, comes to us from Montreal. Aside from being a crack bartender and charming waitress, she loves to travel, is studying interior design and is an aspiring photographer. In case you can't find Angie at Ciro's you're likely to run into her at Fanizzi's or the Euro too!

Karlis Simas, a student from Vilnius, Lithuania, joins our staff as a busboy and service bartender. Majoring in computer studies and economics is only one side of this talented young man's story. His extraordinary good looks have landed him modeling jobs for tv commercials, print ads and runway work in Lithuania. Not a bad way to pay for school! In his spare time he enjoys volleyball, basketball and working out.

Andrei Goriounov, from Novorossiysk, Russia (near the Black Sea) has been with us as a busboy since 2002. He is a teacher of English as a second language in his native Russia, has learned to be a carpenter here and hopes to attend Mass. Maritime Academy in the near future. We're happy to have Andrei as a member of our staff and rely on his quiet competence and attention to detail.

Silas Luster, Larry's third oldest son, is headed for 11th grade at Williston Academy in Northampton, MA. after a summer bussing at Ciro's. Silas enjoys basketball and football and played point guard and linebacker for Nauset's JV teams. Along with his athletic abilities Silas has an artistic flair and particularly liked attending NYU's Film Academy last year where he directed a 5 minute film.

Lincoln Davis, from Hopewell, Jamaica, returns to P'town for his tenth summer season, fourth at Ciro's, to round out our bussing staff. Lincoln always has a smile on his face and has been an eager and capable addition to our crew. His wife works on Nantucket in the summer so, while they are still apart, it's a lot closer than Jamaica. In his spare time Lincoln enjoys soccer, cricket, listening to music and caring for his 14 year old son.

Jennifer Lopez, is our 'hostess with the mostess'. Born and raised in Provincetown, Jennifer dazzled us last Halloween with her outstanding carved pumpkins. Martha Stewart, watch out! In the morning you'll find Jennifer baking the restaurant's desserts. Be sure to save room at the end of your meal---these are treats not to be missed! In her spare time, Jennifer loves to travel and has been to Spain and Africa. Now most of her time is spent caring for her young daughter, Michaela.

Jonathan Myrie comes from Westmoreland, Jamaica, and has returned for his third year to our dishwashing staff. He is friendly, reliable and hardworking.....who could ask for anything more! In his free time Jonathan enjoys sports and music.

Orville Davis, back for another season, hails from Jamaica, and is the fourth sibling in his family to work at Ciro's. No one has a bigger smile or an easier going personality than this gentle and capable man. We're delighted he's part of our crew and happier still that he has moved up to a position in the cold station this season doing all our salads, appetizers and desserts.

Cheryl Dennison, a mother of three from Hopewell, Hanover, Jamaica, has worked in the kitchen doing prep and the cold station, but this year will be at the front desk as cashier as well. Very efficient and well organized, Cheryl is a quick study and can be invaluable in many aspects of the restaurant's operation. When not working she has her hands full with the care of a new infant daughter. We're delighted to have her as a member of our staff.

The 'Family Table' is where the floor staff gathers for meals, meetings, napkin folding, interesting conversation, juicy gossip, joke telling and general good times. If walls could talk! Pictured here from left to right are Scott, Carol, Michael (standing), Susie, Tom (hiding!), and Diane (who makes occasional guest appearances!).

After work it's not uncommon to see members of the staff enjoying an after shift drink with one another. Related by blood or not, we are family! Charles, Audrey, Jennifer, Scott and Bill, share some good cheer on opening night, May 3, 2000.
